High Tech Japanese Soldiers

November 9th, 2007 by James

Check out this Gundam:

Doesn’t look like a Gundam to you? Well, it may not be the same as the giant mobile suits in the anime, but Japan’s Defense ministry has given the nickname “Gundam” to the high tech infantry gear pictured above. Apparently its combination of cameras and computer equipment will be pretty handy on the battlefields of the future.

Here’s a video of a very enthusiastic Japanese reporter trying out the system:

It appears very similar to the US Army’s Future Force Warrior/Land Warrior systems, but how can systems without science fiction anime names possibly measure up to a Gundam?

For more on the Gundam gear, check out Mainichi’s photo gallery and Danny Choo’s post about it.

I can imagine that ridiculous antenna snagging into low ceilings, door ways or dense jungle in cramped combat situations every damn time.
