Paris Hilton in Japan

Do-nothing celebrity Paris Hilton and her sister Nicky came to Japan on Saturday:

They came because they were being paid buckets of cash to attend promotional events for Japanese luxury handbag brand Samantha Thavasa:

Last year, Nicky designed handbags for the popular Japanese brand, which is mostly sold in Japan. The sisters will be in Japan until Wednesday and they will each receive a compensation of $500,000 for promoting the line. Victoria Beckham, Beyonce and the Cruz sisters have previously designed for the Japanese brand.

~~I wonder if they enjoyed Narita’s new foreigner fingerprinting system?~~ I hope they’ll come back later and enjoy being fingerprinted as potential terrorists! [Thanks to Overthinker for pointing out that it will be another 2 weeks before the fingerprinting actually begins.]

I’d rush off overseas tomorrow just to enjoy the final time lining up with the Citizens on my return if I had the time and money. But I am slightly encouraged by the reports that (eventually) there will be three lines – tourists, residents, and citizens – which should make things flow more smoothly.

what percentage of japanese men and women do u think pay attention to all the designer celebrity crap… and do u think that percentage is greater than the US?

parts of japan and parts of the US are known to be fashion conscious… do u think that it is greater in japan than in the united states?

Ugh, that Samantha Thavasa~! Their bags are so damn gaudy. The company’s money would be better spent on designers than lame celebrities like Paris and Beyonce. To answer your question Kay, I think girls in Japan pay way more attention to celeb-backed fashion than in the U.S. But then again, people who buy ST tend to be “gals.” More sophisticated women buy Prada and LV.
