Japanese Dog Name of the Year: Choco
According to an article over at Japan Today, “Choco” reigns supreme in the world of Japanese dogs:
“Choco” was the most popular name given to puppies in Japan during the past one year, and “Marron” was the second most popular, a pet insurance company said Saturday. The names are often given to brown dogs, regardless of whether they are male or female, the Tokyo-based Anicom Club said.
The company surveyed the names of some 68,000 puppies of less than a year old that joined the company’s pet insurance programs between October 2006 and September 2007. In the third annual survey of its kind, Choco was found to be the name of 1,487 puppies, taking first place for the third straight year, followed by Marron for 1,283 puppies.
Since most dogs tend to be brown-ish colors, it’s probably safe to expect the continued popularity of the name “Choco.”
