Foreign Workers Wanted – If They Work Cheap

The Manila Daily Standard reports that Japan is interested in hiring foreign nurses, but only if they work for low pay:

“Japan will hire an initial batch of 400 nurses and 600 caregivers. They will be treated as trainees entitled to a monthly allowance of $400, free board and lodging and free plane fare to and from Japan. But Paquiz said this is lower than the $850 monthly cost of living in Japan and $1,000 in particular in Tokyo. “

And don’t forget to tell the nurses that they will be fingerprinted and photographed when they are “welcomed” to Japan and on every trip back from visiting their relatives, which I guess won’t be a worry, because on that pitiful salary they won’t be able to afford travel.

Just another case of the Japanese government thinking they can get “slave labour” which they will treat differently from “true Japanese”. Or should I say take highly skilled professionals (nurses) and turn them into “slave labour”. I don’t get where the government has the nerve to be even suggesting this. They have plenty of money to be paying them a decent salary, as is shown by all the money they’ve wasted _this year alone_ in misappropriations and theft by government officials.

Hope the nurses wise up and ask for a more equitable deal.
