Spontaneously Combusting Toilet
Watch out, users of Japanese toilets! The next heated toilet seat you sit on could spell your doom:
A bidet toilet seat at a hospital in the Fukuoka Prefecture town of Kurate caught fire and melted, apparently due to a heating problem, officials said.
The Washlet toilet seat, produced by Kitakyushu-based firm Toto, caught fire on Sept. 8, officials at Kurate Municipal Hospital said.
Police said that there was no evidence the toilet had been deliberately set alight, and that there was a high possibility the fire started from the heated seat.
This spring, Toto announced that a number of its bidet toilets had caught fire or overheated, but those products were different from the model that caught fire in the latest incident.
