I must say I am surprised to see both Cowboy Bebop’s GITS: SC’s inner universe and Hokuto no Ken’s theme songs NOT break the top 50.. Sad really. There is a lot of crappy j-pop nonsense on this list. NO DRIVER’S HIGH FROM GTO?!!? This list is fucking trash. God damn nitaba, they are full of shit!

really great find and it doesn’t surprise me that most of the songs are actually from really old series.
especially the very best song is really romanticized a lot by otaku since it stands for the series itself,so an opening simply cannot be evaluated only by its music but also by its series ^^

Yes! I love number one(zero?)! I’ve never even seen the series but my friend gave me the song and I sing it to myself all the time. Also, some of my favorites made it to the top 20. Great list!

Totally saw the #1/0 song coming from a mile away. Although most of the rest of the list really surprised me.

Interesting, is really funny that there are old series and new ones op-eds, almost nothing on the middle.
Anyway, I think there is so much from new series mmmm… (no FMA? that suprised me so much XD)

It would be interesting to see what people outside of Japan would consider their top 100 anime songs to be, since I certainly don’t think that it would be the same at all.

Personally, I love the concept here but I’m saddened to see how many wonderful songs got over-shadowed just because it seemed that most of the ppl voted based on the Anime, not the song. T.M. Revolution’s “Heart of the Sword” should have been higher on the list, there is no Siam Shade ANYWHERE on the list (which is bull), no Cutey Honey song (even my husband loves that song), no Weiss Kreuz, Fushigi Yugi, etc. etc. etc.

I’m disappointed in the voters who obviously played favourites because there are several songs on the list done by the same artist and in the same Anime. Hopefully the next try at this will prevail more to the REAL top 100.

Kannazuki No Miko (49 – Agony and 48 – Resublimity) should be more higher!! Dx

As with any top 100 list, you are going to have your disagreements. The Gantz opener was one of my favorites. Inuyasha had some decent endings and I’m surprised it didn’t make an appearance. The newer anime’s have awesome songs – I don’t know when this was made though. GitS should have been higher. I’m surprised they had a lot of cheesy songs from the old-time animes….

I didn’t expect to see Cruel Angel’s Thesis at #1, but I guess I can’t argue with it…

They got all of Suzumiya’s songs except “Lost My Music,” so I’m kinda miffed over that. They missed a lot of good ones, but I guess not every song can be recognized in list of 100.

You didn’t mention the video or the position. In the first video, 2:58 is position #85 (Magic Knight Rayearth’s third opening, 光と影を抱きしめたまま or “Hikari to Kage o Dakishimeta Mama”, translated as “Still Embracing Light and Darkness”). In the second video, it is position #42 (Sister Princess’s opening, “Love Destiny”). And in the third video, it should be #4 (魔法 先生 ネギま!, “Negima! Magister Negi Magi”’s opening theme, “Happy Material”. Hope that helps!

I was surprised no Slayers, Sakura or Macross song were included until they popped up, or that the Magic Knight Rayearth opening was not getting some love. Was surprised until the end about Zankoku no Tenshi no Thesis, specially since #1 isn’t really #1 :-)

Personally, I think Slayers has a few more songs to offer, although having one at #5 is awesome. Digimon’s “Butterfly” surprised me, I knew it but never thought it would be the there. And no BubbleGum Crisis, which has probably the best soundtrack ever made?

Personally, “Ai oboete imasu ka” from “Macross: Do you remember love?” is the best one, because it was one of the first I ever listened, and encouraged me to learn Japanese. I would also include Macross 2 opening, “The hush of two hundred million years” because of the rhythm, and the series ending “Promise”. “BubbleGum Crisis” has too many to choose, like “Say Yes”, “Mad Machine”, “Mysterious Night”, etc (I spent most of a night listening to them).

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust’s “Tohku Made” by Do As Infinity would be pretty high, with Utena’s opening theme and Rurouni Kenshin’s “Sobakasu” by Judy and Mary.

As you can see, I prefer old, ‘80-’90 anime songs rather than new ones, although I am open to everything. Hope you post the yearly best 100 again at the end of 2008! Cheers!

I…heart…thee…
I thought I would never hear some of these songs again (Just Communications-Gundam Wing). And some reminded me of shows I wanted to watch(Solty Rei/rest of Negima).
Oh, and Serial Experiment Lain was weird. I hardly understood it. Maybe I should watch it again…

Could see Eva coming from a mile away, along with Slayers.

BS!!! Kenshin should have been WAY higher than 89.

Didn’t have X, Lodoss War, Weiss Kreuz, Fushigi Yugi, all BS and should have broken top 50 at least.

Otherwise, considering they were mostly picked by the actual show, not the music, a pretty good list.

Could see Slayers and Evangelion in top 5 from a mile away.

BS!!! Kenshin should have been WAY higher. Also, no Weiss Kreuz, Fushigi Yugi, didn’t see any Lodoss War (might have missed it). *tear* Anyway, those all should have broken top 50 at least.

Otherwise, besides the fact that many of my favorite songs were not even on the list, and most were picked on the fact that the anime was good, couldn’t argue with many (Utena, Slayers, Eva, etc.).

Fair, overall.

Thanks RB for the list of all the songs! Personally I think a lot of these were chosen out of sentimentality (doraemon and the other kid animes), or just because it’s a classis old anime even when it has a bad theme song (that 80’s song in #32), or because they just liked the anime as another commenter said. Rather than being the best, it doesn’t include many recent animes. But overall, I thought it was a good list and I liked a good amount of it.
