Runner Slams Face Into Hurdle

August 28th, 2007 by James

Austrian runner Guenther Weidlinger slammed his head into a hurdle during the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the World Athletic Championships in Osaka the other day. Here’s a video of his painful experience:

While it looks pretty bad, doctors have said that he suffered no injuries beyond some cuts to his lower lip and jaw.

Haha, it’s completly different what was written in the Newspaper about him (it was written that he had some serious injuries). It does look very painful.

From the MSNBC article linked:

“We were worried at first. Thankfully, the latest news we have is much less worrying. It is confidential and very sensitive, but he is being submitted for more tests.”

Weidlinger quickly recovered full consciousness but will be kept under observation for at least one night.

“The athlete sustained injuries to the lower lip and jaw which have been stitched,” Austrian team doctor Andreas Kroener said in a statement.

“There is no damage to the teeth or the head,” Kroener said. “A computer tomography was made of the skull and cervical vertebrae and no injury was detected.”
