Japan Photo of the Week: Nebuta
With Summer coming to an end soon, the last run of summer festivals are going on here in Japan. Last weekend I went to Aomori Prefecture to see one of the most summer famous festivals in Japan, Nebuta Matsuri.
Basically these large floats are made from wood, bamboo and paper and colorfully decorated and then paraded around the city. The floats are quite large and rather impressive in person. Actually there are two other float festivals that go on in Aomori at the same time, Neputa and Tachi Neputa. Check back the coming weeks for those. If you want to learn more about the facts and history of Nebuta Matsuri, here is the official English site. If you want to see more photos check out the Japan Photo Guide.
