Six Weird Games For The Nintendo DS

With the Nintendo DS continuing its dominance of the Japanese video game market, it seems like a huge number of the commercials one sees on TV over here are for DS games. Some companies create games using established formulas, while others go out on a limb and experiment with innovative and/or bizarre game styles. Some are bound to fail as stupid gimmicks, while others are pretty cool looking. Here are six of the weirdest DS games I’ve come across recently.

    1. Train Your Face! A recent survey showed that two in five Japanese people find their own face embarrassing, which probably means a lot of them are looking to improve their facial performance. As of today, they will finally be able to train their faces using the Nintendo DS! The appropriately-named Face Training will come with a small camera that films your face and allows you to see if you are correctly performing the facial expressions the game requires. Here’s Face Training‘s TV commercial:

    2. Slide Around! Slide Adventure Mag Kid, which also hits stores today, comes with a unique slide controller, which you can see in action in this commercial:

    3. Getting Drunk! Sommelier DS provides DS owners with something they’ve always needed: a guide to different types of wines. If you want to view its commercial, click on the image below and check it out on their website [if you can't read Japanese, just select the button with "CM" on it].

The makers of this game will be following it up with two titles scheduled to be released later this year. One will be a guide to Japanese sake, while the other (Bartender DS) will be a guide to mixing drinks and cocktails.

    4. Drum Away! Taiko No Tatsujin DS Touch de Dokodon is the DS adaptation of the popular series of arcade games in which players play traditional Japanese taiko drums to the beat of famous songs. Here’s its commercial:

    5. Practice Yoga! Apparently some people out there want to use their DS to help them practice yoga, so Konami has released Dokodemo Yoga to guide them. Here’s a short promotional video for the game:

    6. Touch Little Girls! Doki Doki Majo Shinpan is a game that lets you use your stylus to..umm…probe little girls. This video should give you a good idea of its gameplay:
