Made In Kobea: Chinese Companies Copy Korean Products

July 26th, 2007 by James

Here’s an interesting report from yesterday afternoon’s news on Chinese companies copying South Korean products:

Highlights:

  • A copy of a car tail light: the original says KOREA on it, while the Chinese copy says KOBEA. The other major difference between them is that the Chinese-made light is not properly sealed and can fill up with rain water.
  • Korean consumers tell reporters that it is very difficult for them to tell if brand bags being sold in shops are the real thing.
  • A Chinese company is selling copies of a Korean beer brand.
  • Six months after a South Korean company started selling a new motorbike, a Chinese company suddenly began selling an copy of the vehicle. While the outside appearance is similar, the Chinese-made bike’s engine apparently breaks down within its first year of use.
  • A Korean employee of a major golf goods brand states that he is concerned that Chinese copies are having a negative influence on the image of his brand.

Um…kanji? ramen? I think Japan has done some copying of its own in the past (as did Korea). Oh well.

Hahaha, that’s funny, when’s the last time you heard Japanese people claiming to have invented kanji and when did China ever invent noodles in soup?

I think you should organize your thoughts before you make seriously insulting comments like that.

Are you even Japanese? Because I don’t know a single Japanese person that would be insulted by “Jojo”’s comment.

She (or he)’s not saying that the Japanese stole their culture from the Chinese, she’s just stating the fact that a lot of customs were brought to and copied by the Japanese from China (mostly by Koreans, who had copied the customs themselves). And in case you’ve never been to Japan, traditional ramen is often referred to as “Chinese-style Japanese noodles”.

So I think you should do some research before you make such ignorant sounding comments. Zing!
