Bobby Ologun Is Japanese

Bobby’s Japanese is a completely ‘dumb African act’ either. Certainly his Japanese is plagued with mistakes, but they are all intentional and funny. In the video for example, he refers to the show Mezamashi-Terebi as Medamayaki-Terebi.

A long time ago, I used to look at Bobby’s act like many and find it almost offensive that he was stuck in the never-ending character of the dumb foreigner who can’t speak Japanese — after all I could speak Japanese and didn’t think of myself as a dumb foreigner. But it turned out that I couldn’t speak Japanese, and that’s why I didn’t understand Bobby’s act. Now that I get it, I understand that he’s pretty clever, and I think that is the point, and that those people watching it understand that.

His younger brother didn’t come to Japan to be a TV personality, but rather a K-1 fighter (I think — can someone either confirm or deny that; the main thing is he’s not here to be on TV). But with Bobby as his brother, he makes his way on TV on occasion. He certainly does have good Japanese.

It’s @#$%ing painful to listen to this palooka speak Japanese. He makes some amusing puns, but his accent is almost unintelligible, and he should really work on speaking Japanese like a professional (and intelligent) adult.
