I think it’s obviously fake but David was making an effort to make it seem convincing, it was just for entertainment. Even his japanese mannerisms are perfect.

Sadly it’s a fake because the big where they hug at around 3.27, both Ken’s and David’s heads are on resting the wrong shoulders, i.e. the bit where Ken says that he has a twin brother, his head is resting on David’s right shoulder with the camera facing him but when we see David’s face, we see that Ken’s head is resting on David’s left shoulder.

Nice try but no cigar!

its not that hard to figure out that they are the same person. plus who the hell are you kidding david ury?
facial features are exactly the same(props to the fake beard)and the voice is exactly the same even with 2 different accents.
and no, i dont think he is that funny too but he helps people other gaijins to learn some japanese.
and as a japanese native, his nihonggo isnt so bad either. he mustve studied it alot and learn the mimic our accent as well.

It’s obvious that David Ury is Ken Tanaka and I don’t understand what all this fuss is about. Ken Tanaka is a fictional character used in a series of documentary-style videos about Japan. Whether people like him or not is another story. I personally find him very entertaining but knowing Japanese does help.

This video is very clever; he uses a lot of quick cuts to make it appear as though there are 2 people there. Notice they never shake hands. “Ken” is a very creative amateur filmmaker.

I don’t find him funny but there’s nothing offensive about this. His Japanese isn’t bad, and he’s decided to create this persona to promote himself as an actor. It worked for “Lonelygirl”, so why not for “Ken Tanaka”?

Not funny, but I’m not sure it’s meant to be. I see it as more of an experiment.

Yeah… as it has been said, it’s just not funny. I think that why people make such a big deal out of it. We know it’s all for laughs, but few are laughing.
