Three Foreign Students Arrested

A video from NTV news:

According to the news report, three male foreign students have been arrested in Saitama prefecture for robbing households of valuables and cash. After the arrest, police searched their house and found lock picking tools that they are suspected of having used in their crimes. Police have linked them to robberies in which about 920,000 yen (7,500 dollars) had been stolen, but they have apparently committed about 300 robberies in the Kanto region in which a far larger amount of money was stolen. All three men were from the same region of China and had come to Japan to study at the same university together.

Robbery or burglary?
If they’re using lockpicking tools and did it 300 times, it sounds a lot more like burglary (sneaking into a building and quietly stealing) than robbery (openly stealing from an occupied building with the threat and/or use of violence)
On moral, and perhaps legal grounds, robbery is “worse” than burglary.

The use of “robbing” is correct here. By robbing someone’s house, those thieves committed burglary. Understand?

This may just be a regional variation, but your use of “robbing someone’s house” is slang where I come from (UK). The general word would be steal.
But burglary is from a property, usually without the involvement of the ‘victim’ (otherwise it becomes ‘aggravated burglary’, a slightly more serious charge). Robbery is usually from a person, often with the threat or use of violence.
I think that’s what the British police would tell you anyway.
