Ken Tanka’s Daily Life

July 18th, 2007 by Claytonian

What does American-born Japan-raised Ken Tanaka do when he is not searching for his birth parents? Watch this vid to find out.

Edit: Folks. Seriously. We know. The idea is to get in on the joke, not be pissed off by it. Stop acting like Ken has pulled a lonely girl on us.

just don’t find him funny. never found people that take the piss out of racial stereo types funny in the least. just perpetuates racial myths and i find it just a little bit racist.

he is not a racial stereotype but a lingual one, and a very kind one at that. He does not destroy Japanese culture; he creates curiosity in it.

Why does he talk like that??

He talks like that cause he’s a moron who’s playing off ‘Borat’.

His hands jesters and idiosyncrasy are all American in nature. What him look to the roof to gather a phrase or comment, not once have I seen a Japanese person do that, nor point to introduce someone with a single finger, Japanese use the full flat faced hand.

Either do a better job acting or actually make it funny.

borat was another character i never found funny and being ‘in’ on it still don’t make him a ‘good comedic actor’

Borat is funny, Andy Kaufman is funny. “Ken Tanaka” is terribly boring and unfunny. I am as ‘lightened up’ as you an get and still cannot stand this, not because it perpetuates racial stereotypes but because it is embarrassingly lame.

if you ve been following this guys videos (as you obviously have) you have to admit some interest in it. i ve been erring on the side of it being fake, but im not 100% sure – i think thats what makes him so entertaining.
it also goes to show, foreigners in japan are likely to be annoyed when japanese are amazed when they can behave “normally” in society (speaking, mannerisms, habits) – but at the same time, many of us also have an unhealthy interest in discrediting the inchiki and pointing out how unjapanese he is.
if you flip the situation on its head, it would be so unremarkarble, so unblogable – for an asian to spend some time in a western country and then “fraudulently” claim to actually be a westerner.
btw. the choice of the name, “john smith” is really comical.
