Joseph Dresnok Is Drinking & Smoking Himself To Death In North Korea

July 13th, 2007 by James

CBS News has reported that Joe Dresnok, an American soldier who defected to North Korea in the 1960’s and was a “friend” of fellow defector Charles Robert Jenkins, is not in very good shape:

The latest word from North Korea is that Joe Dresnok’s health continues to deteriorate because he refuses to stop smoking and drinking. And he still intends to remain in Pyongyang until his dying day.

For those of you unfamiliar with Dresnok, here is a 60 Minutes segment about him:

Part 1
Part 2

After Jenkins-san fled to Japan to join his wife, he gave an interview in which he claimed that Dresnok was a stooge of the North Koreans who would deliver beatings to Jenkins whenever he badmouthed Kim Jong-Il’s regime. In the British documentary Crossing the Line, Dresnok spends a considerable amount of time bad-mouthing Jenkins, including making claims that Jenkin’s wife, Hitomi Saga, had a “wandering eye” because Jenkins was too old for her. I doubt such comments made Jenkins very happy…

But what’s REALLY ironic is that he was drinking Jack Daniels (how do they even get that in N. Korea?)! So, an American dying of an American booze in kita jyosen . . .
