American English Teacher Arrested For Beating Up Japanese Taxi Driver

Well, it looks like that Tokyo prison I just blogged about is going to have yet another foreigner overflowing their cells (according to Japan Today):

TOKYO — Police said Wednesday that a male English teacher was arrested for beating up a taxi driver and not paying the cab fare on July 1. The teacher, identified as Timothy Wilson, 49, from the U.S., was charged with assault.

According to police, Wilson got into the taxi in Minato Ward and then refused to pay the 2,400 yen cab fare and allegedly punched the 49-year-old taxi driver in the face several times in Setagaya Ward. The taxi driver chased Wilson who fled the scene, and called police even though he was injured. Wilson has admitted to the allegations, police said.

This story is EXACTLY like a story blogged about in JAN 2007 (which ends with the Taxi driver being a liar and a cheat).

So without a police report source, I’m guessing this is just another lame attempt at stirring up the racist side of Japan.

With all of Japan’s problems (aging and declining population, flat investments, lack of creativity, internal political scandals, etc.) you’d think they could drop their racist crap and worry about bigger problems.

I can only find this story at Japan Today and they never mention their source.
Has anyone found this story in a Japanese newspaper? I’ve tooked in The Japan Times, Yomiuri, Manichi and Asahi on-line editions and can’t find it.
But it is the kind of story that would be printed, if it happened.
Where would Japan Today get a story like this?
Does Japan Probe verify stories it posts? If not this is a good place to start.

I haven’t been able to find the story in Japanese either. I haven’t known Japan Today to post much stuff that is made up, so for now I’ll consider it true.

I don’t want to run around screaming fire every time I see a smoker or a Japan Today story…….but………the bookstore story is suspect also.
It sounds great at first, and it’s just the kind of story Mainichi would print, but anyone who would do it would have to be braindamaged. Bookstore worker’s skirts are far too long and they move around too much.
I think that if you can’t find either story in the Japanese press there is a problem at Japan Today.
I won’t rant about them again.
