New Japanese TV Tetris Game Video

July 6th, 2007 by James

Here’s a fun clip from the latest episode of Tunnels no Minasan no Okage Deshita, featuring the famous game in which contestants must squeeze themselves through holes in an oncoming wall before being pushed into the water:

(You may have seen the videos from our original update about this skit, which were ripped by someone and re-uploaded to other sites as “human tetris game” videos and featured on hundreds of other sites. The above video is newer.)

There is actually a similiar game on a Korea show. You can find the Korea version on youtube. I am not certain who is the original. You can see Korea mentioned on the top left corner of the initial video.

The initial video has a guest appearance by a South Korean K-1 fighter, hence the mention of Korea, I think.

Watch this video at around 2′50″.
Copying Japanese TV programs has been a big problem in Korea.

I know that Korea has been using Japanese gameshow ideas legally or illegally and Korea negative sentiments towards Japan. But I always try to be neutral to issues involving both countries. For this particular game, I believe it originated from a Korea show. My Japanese is not good but I think the subs mention that the human tetris idea is officially licensed to a Japan TV station clearing confusion by viewers pointing out the similarities between the shows. Maybe someone who can read Japanese can help to clarify this.

I have to add that it may be the other way round where the Korea show bought the license from the Japanese broadcasting station to use the human tetris idea. But there is definitely agreement between both side and not blatant copy.

It says SBS bought the license from the Japanese TV station. It’s not a ripoff.

You’re right, it says it comes from Korean (Kankoku) TV. Hope this clears it out :)

Sangdrax: Where in the above video does it say this game comes from Korean TV?

From Japanese Wikipedia’s entry on

This show was mentioned on a British show but as “human tetris” on their crappy internet video segment, in the end some dog singing to a piano or something won.
=__= in just this is quality programming.

Probably the most hilarious videos I’ve ever witnessed, to date! We need that game show to make its tour to Canada!
