We’ve got a two-fer today, folks. This video appears to be dated, but when it was dugg up today I couldn’t resist the urge to share. I have never seen someone shotgun a PET bottle so fast. I kept waiting for a belch to match the feat, but it never came – to my disappointment. How impressive. Anyhoo, I apologize if it’s old hat, but if you’ve never seen it before, have you ever downed a drink that fast? And what is he drinking anyway? Pocari Sweat? Dunno. And I thought nomikai hosts were scared of foreigners. This guy would make them think twice, too. Enjoy.

Great clip!
Did some research and the clip is from Food Battle Club 3 (フードバトルクラブ ３) THE SPEED in 2002 on TBS. This was right at the height of the speed eating craze in Japan — and before they stopped airing specials (can you believe watching a special about people speed eating for two hours?) because people got hurt copying them I believe.
It’s just labeled as Sports Drink — I guess they couldn’t get an official sponsor?

All of the guys sitting with their mouths open are all speed eaters and at the 8 second mark you see this kind of wide mouth guy — that’s Shiroto Noboyuki, the only guy in Japan who could take down Kobayashi Takeru at that time.

I’ve seen someone do something similar, though not as fast. The trick, I understand, is to open your throat (like a sword-swallower) and just pour (or in this case, squeeze) the drink in. Not that I have experimented much.
One of the more impressive eating feats I’ve seen on Japanese TV was someone eating the entire menu of a patisserie in 24 hours, including all sizes of wedding cake….
