Japanese Newspaper Coverage Of Former Taiwanese President

Newsflash 1: The fast majority of American and international newspapers expressed praise or amazement of the Cultural Revolution. Even the White House was confused as to what was going on in China at the time (as was most of the world).

Newsflash 2: Every Japanese newspaper during the Imperial era praised and supported Japanese militarism. Considering that the Imperial State coopted nearly all national print media, the singular focus on the WW2-era Asahi is disingenuous. For example one would also have to accuse say, the Mainichi of the same thing. In the history of the US many newspapers can be similarly accused of having fanned the flames of war.

Accusations that the Asahi is a China-puppet, “hater of democracy” and whatnot have been expressed time and time again, almost always most vociferously by people with certain views of history more closely aligned to the Sankei newspaper. They remind me of those who lambast the New York Times as “unpatriotic” or “traitorous” for reporting unflattering stories of the US or challenging government censorship. They are tired and worn out insults.

Asahi is the second largest newspaper in Japan, and many of my Japanese friends read it. I suppose I can infer using faulty logic that they, along with a large numbers of Japanese who read the Asahi, are enemies of freedom and democracy.

And kudos for linking Peter Pan, whose frequently hate smeared site simply does wonders for one’s blood pressure.

Peter Pan said that same thing in a different thread, and then posted a link to the disputed Japanese wikipedia page as proof.

Japan has fulfilled it’s legal responsibility, but that makes no difference in a China that has a government run fake Disney Land where laws don’t apply.”

I comment back, “China has disputes with every one of it’s neighbors as well, but does that mean China tries to piss everyone off too? Japan is an island country in close proximity with other countries, it’s going to have boundary disputes.”
4.) Posting a translation request I got.
5.) A fake ‘congrats, you are a Zainichi’ certificate poking fun of the extreme emotionalism that many are over taken with.
6.) Posted Komori’s PBS interview and translated some comments about it.
7.) Translated a comment from iheartblueballs. I wish I would have kept the original English, because it didn’t take long for his comment to get deleted from The Marmot’s Hole.
8.) Brendon Carr discusses how some Koreans may think it’s their duty to lie in court when testifying against anything American; what stops someone from doing the same when it comes to issues about Japan considering the conflicting testimony that we’ve seen?
9.) Point out the extreme difference in the English and Japanese version of an editorial in the Chosun Ilbo saying ‘the Japanese are the poorest race on earth’ in English, and in Japanese that ‘the Japanese need to match their verbal apologies with actions.’
10.) Translate Marmot’s, “See, the Japanese aren’t worthless after all” article.

Mostly I just post translations, which is what it says in the English about page. I don’t think you actually checked my articles before you said I was a publisher of hate material, because I don’t think you understand Japanese based on your analysis of that wikipedia article… and the note on your blog that says you don’t speak Japanese

Sorry, I should have made it clearer which random personal attack I was addressing. That was supposed to be in response to Jamie, who does run a blog.

I’ve never said such a thing. That was actually you saying people say things like that, and that they are wrong. Asahi does not mention Lee’s comments about Taiwanese democracy because ‘Asahi is an enemy of democracy’, it doesn’t mention them because China doesn’t want to them to be mentioned.

When I read your posts, I find little substance but a lot of hot air.

I don’t really ‘write’ my posts, I just translate what others have said. Please see the English page on mine for further explination.

The TONE of your postings, the RIDICULE, the ANGER, the CONDESCENSION that you heap on those you disagree with is disgusting and often racist.

Could you give me a specific reference as to which part so I can see what you define about me translating other ppl’s posts as racist for an example . If you think that every single word I’ve written is racist and it would be impossible to point out every last one, please find one in specific that you are the most upset about and tell me which one that is. Please share the Japanese and your translation of it to English; I wonder if you’re finding a tone of ridicule and anger and condescension that isn’t really there.
