Entertaining Johnny Depp

June 12th, 2007 by James

More of a “let’s get Johnny to watch cute little girls dance and sing” than an interview:

Part 1
Part 2

Update (by popular demand): Welcome visitors from BoingBoing, here is another video of Johnny Depp on the same Japanese TV show. It aired last year when Johnny was in Japan to promote Pirates 2, and the kids interviewing him in English are students at an international school in Gunma Prefecture:

Wow, I’m just as impressed as much as Johnny Depp was… That was some amazing performances these kids did.

On the one hand it’s pretty amazing, but how WEIRD is that. Depp is going to think that Japanese people are pseudo-retarded or something

I wish I could find that other interview he did in Japan, where the little boys did a little presentation for him. It was hilarious.

I posted it on this site last year, but it has since been removed from youtube. They mention those kids at the beginning of this clip, and are quite surprised that Johnny apparently remembers the nicknames of those boys.

Yes, that was pretty cool, and why I suddenly wanted to track it down, haha. I hadn’t remembered that was you! Glad it was, so thanks. (Only been seriously reading this for a few months)

It sounds like music from the “Gladiator” soundtrack at the end of the 2nd video.

That’s because Hans Zimmer has been profiting off of the same piece of music since he wrote it way back when for “The Rock”. Seriously. Listen to the scene where Maximus is under the Circus in Rome. Then listen to the Pirates Soundtrack. Same music. And everybody keeps paying for it.

Boing Boing says Johnny’s suffering through this “ordeal.” I say he’s earning every penny he makes. I don’t feel sorry for him one bit.

That was soo cute!! Those kids are so talented, I think Johnny really did enjoyed it. He has 2 kids of his own, so I think he really did like their performance.

I detect no awkwardness. This is just Japanese cordiality and Johnny’s suave jump over a language and age barrier. Why does Boingboing so often blow things out of proportion?

Johnny seems to love kids. He was being polite enough not to interrupt. The kids are speaking a second language and he let them finish what they had to say.

Mark at boingboing can sound pretty shortsighted at times. Anyway, it was nice that they linked here to get people looking at this. Don’t take BB too seriously, jim. It’s just a bunch of people putting up links they find or using the space to showcase their own work, they are not an authority on what everything means.

I was mostly drawn to this because of what BoinBoing had to say about his reaction. I don’t think Johnny’s reaction was a negative one. I would have been exstaticly smiling the whole time like I was euphoric, but this was cute as hell. I’d love to see the other video if at all possible.

I don’t understand why everyone likes Depp. He’s just like Madona with his fake pseudo-European accent. He thinks he’s the shit and all artsy and crap when really he’s just a rich sell-out celebrity bitch who wishes he were European.
