Zoos Lease Chinese Pandas, Japanese Media Complains
Japanese zoo-goers love to see pandas. However, as this subtitled news report shows, Japanese zoos have to pay hefty “rental” fees fees to the Chinese every year to keep the animals. In the case of a baby panda’s birth at the park, the zoo has to pay additional rental fees:
The panelists on the show are suspicious of the claim that these “donation” fees go towards the preservation of Pandas in China, and they’d like some transparency about where the money is actually spent. “After all, they did have that fake Disneyland.”
