Kayne West Goes Japanese

  • Profiles of the Day
  • More at Japan Probe Friends...

American rapper Kayne West has released a new music video inspired by the anime Akira:

His “song” might just be him singing on top of a far better song he didn’t make, but the video’s still pretty cool.

    Thailand: Hottest Ladyboys

A few weeks ago we shared a Japanese TV program with you that traveled to Colombia looking for beautiful women. They found one woman on the street who they thought was pretty, and asked her to introduce them to a friend she thought was prettier than her, repeating the process until they reached the “most beautiful” woman in Colombia. On last week’s program, they traveled to Thailand and did the same thing, but with beautiful “new half” ladyboys instead of with women. Here are the women featured, with some of their old photos as men:

    Part 1

    Part 2

No word on whether their reporter hooked up with any of the ladyboys, but guessing on how excited he was, he probably tried to pick up a few of them.

Coke Machine Robot Vending Machine Red: Now Subtitled!

Vending Machine Red, the bizarre coke machine robot whose videos we featured before, has gone international! It seems that the folks behind the videos have decided to upload English-subtitled versions of Vending Machine Red to YouTube. Unfortunately, the marketing team behind Vending Machine Red didn’t feel like they needed to hire a native English speaker to do their translation work, since the English is awkward and doesn’t necessarily reflect the Japanese being spoken. Oh well, it’s still cool:

    Episode 1: Walking the streets

Episode 2: Meeting other vending machines

    Episode 3: Reading the newspaper

Episode 4: Facing security at the national diet building

Episode 5: A Coca-Cola Zero version of Vending Machine Red appears!

Episode 6: Coke Zero vs. Saigo Takamori

Episode 7: Dancing with otaku in Akihbara

Billy Blanks vs. Japanese Comedians (They Touch His Crotch)

Earlier this week, Billy Blanks, who is in Japan to promote his Billy’s Bootcamp DVD series, appeared on a comedy program hosted by Akashiya Sanma. Billy seemed to hold himself together pretty well in the face of the bizarre and wacky antics of the comedians:

    She really loves Billy:

Billy motivates a few comedians into working out:

Billy must have had somebody educate him on a few choice Japanese phrases, because he kept slinging random comedic insults at some of the comedians. In the case of Sanma-san, Billy called him “deppa” [someone whose teeth stick out], which led this this “fight:”

This time Billy’s favorite girl decides to go straight for his crotch, saying “chin, chin, chin,” or something like “pe, nis, pe, nis” if put into English:

The VICTORY ending, with the men wanting to hug him:

Japan Photo of the Week: Dango

Dango is a chewy Japanese sweet made from rice flour. It can be found all around Japan and is usually sold by vendors at temples, shrines, and festivals. There are many kinds of Dango, for example in this photo from front to back, soy sauce and sugar, sesame, and sweet red bean paste. If you visit Japan, or are living here and haven’t tried it yet, be sure to try this tasty Japanese treat…but don’t choke on it, it is fairly chewy (not hard octopus chewy, think soft candy chewy)!

Dango from Genbikei by Evan Pike

These particular dango are from Genbikei, a gorge in Iwate prefecture that is quite nice in itself, but it probably more famous for this restaurant that serves flying dango. For more information about Genbikei or flying dango check out the Japan Photo Guide.

This photograph was taken by Evan Pike. If you would like to see more or buy this photograph, check out the gallery.
