Philippine Star Editorial: A New Japan

May 25th, 2007 by James
Japan reaches for “Planned-Rearming”

While reading news sites this evening I happened to come across the above cartoon, which was posted on the ABS-CBN website along with a Philippine Star editorial about Japan’s efforts to amend its pacifist constitution. It’s not every day that you find an editorial cartoon in favor of Japanese rearmament.

Update: Crimson has written an editorial inspired by this political cartoon over at Stippy.

BRAVO! In my view there could be no simpler way of describing this truth. The image says it all.

While I agree with the general sentiments, the implication that the SDF is some weak and puny force is not exactly accurate.

Sorry, but the SDF IS weak and puny compared to Japan’s neighbors. It is becoming ever clearer that the next world or regional war will be instigated by Chinese aggression toward Taiwan and most likely Japan. There is no other reason for China’s military buildup. Nobody threatens them. They are simply expansionist and seeking raw materials. Does this sound familiar?

Japan has, like any other country, every right to posses a Normal Army.

Due to dangerous neighbors such as North Korea, Russia and Imperialistic China, this becomes very important.
