I watched the documentary last night on Netflix. I felt so sorry for them, and the women they entertained. Their life styles were very unhealthy in every way: physically, emotionally and spiritually. One could sense a lack of joy and direction in life their lives. Many of the women they entertained were prostitutes. One of the women they interviewed really wanted out, but became complacent with doing depraved acts for easy money. She just couldn't seem to escape her situation. Another woman looked so sad holding a puppy. All of them lonely and detached.

You should watch the documentary The Great Happiness Space, it's all about Japanese host clubs like how you described. I watched it before and thought it would be fun and entertaining, but in the end you just feel sorry for everyone involved. Some of those Japanese women had good jobs before they got obsessed with the hosts, and then they quit to become prostitutes because they weren't making enough money to cover the cost of their addiction.
This is really, really fantastic; I'm almost at the end and the whole thing has been just so eye-opening and heartbreaking. Thanks.

I love documentaries. I saw one documentary that was similar to this one, but it involves host women for women (the catch is that it is not a lesbian bar though). Anyway, thanks for the link.

thank you james! You know how hard it was to get into the New York screening at the Museum of Modern Art. It was probably due to the fact that the director had a Q & A after the film. I thought I would never see these come to light. Hopefully, this will be released. Thanks James!!!!
