Foreigners on Japanese TV: American Celebrity News Guy

FTV’s wacky hollywood reporter, Brian Link, gives Japan an introduction to the world of celebrity body guards:

Prior to Brian Link, Mezamashi TV had another blonde-haired American guy reporting from Hollywood. He reported in a similar wacky way, but with a bit more femininity thrown in. Anybody know what happened to that guy?

So, am I to assume that Japanese celebrity’s do not use body guards at all? I think that’s incredibly interesting that they would be able to go out in public and blend in without constant fan approaches.

Thanks for checking us out, Brian! I’ll try to keep a look out for your future appearances on TV. I watch Mezamashi TV almost every day, so there’s a good chance I can record and post some of them in the future.

Also, it’s great to see that “Angel” has been replaced. I wonder if the folks at Fuji TV saw his blog?

Not sure what happened but the last time i saw the previous US reporter on TV he interviewed Leo DiCaprio (?).
Leo commented on the US flag patterened tie and braces/suspenders that he wore. The reporter replied… “I need to dress in this crazy way so the Japanese public know I’m an American”

This is not word perfect, but it was in English so I understood it well.
It is likely to have been translated and may have come accross as offensive (that is … silly Japanese, I need to be a charicature for them to know it is US-based news)

Not sure, but after that he has gone…a few weeks later, a new US guy

Not a lot of actual reporting done – or even talking, for that matter. Seems the prime qualification, based on the previous guy and this guy, is blond hair. But then what else is new?
Looked up that first guy, “Angel.” Yikes…..

I must say I am thankful for the passing of time which has meant that it is possible to have a bit on bodyguards and NOT have that heinous Witney Houston cover “Aaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!!! Will! Always! Love! Yoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuu!!!” all the time….
