Boy killed by gangster, father sues, then father becomes gangster

May 14th, 2007 by Claytonian

Just thought it might be good to take a moment to point out this truly bizarre and ironic story.

When former administrative scrivener Shigeo Yamamoto lost his young son in a 1997 traffic accident involving a gang member, he was prepared for a full legal battle with the gangster. But it was contact with gang members during negotiations that led to his downfall, as he was arrested alongside another gang member for swindling an elderly woman out of her property.

Somehow, this seems like an “only in Japan” type situation. Any other mafia would have you shot for suing them in the first place.

EDIT: I decided to change the headline, cause I am not sure if the people involved are full-blown yakuza.

Reminds me of the theme song from that hit 80’s TV show, “Punky Brewster.”
..
“You maybe lonely and then / One day you’re smiling again. / Every time I turn around, / I see the gang that turns my world around, / Standing there.
..
Everytime I turn around, / Yakuza spirit’s lifting me right off the ground. / What’s gonna be ? / Guess we’ll just wait and see.”
..
Or something like that. I should get more sleep.
