Tojo appears on Korean TV to defend Yasukuni

Yuko Tojo, the granddaughter of former Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, appeared on South Korean TV last year to participate in a panel discussion about the Yasukuni Shrine. Japan blogger Ampontan has posted a link to the video of the interview, as well as an interesting translation of some of the main points brought up in the video. Check it out!

There are lot´s of good things in Japan for the japanese to be proud of such as the culture and the strong economy. They should restore their pride with positive things that can bring happyness to all instead of sorrow and anger. (I´m not saying this to offend the japaneses)

It is a notable factor of the Right Wing that the Japanese Values they want to return to are a very specific set of values related to prewar power structures, and not, say, kimono fashion, tatami mats, or ukiyoe. They are concerned with political power rather than genuine tradition.

Yes and it would be nice if there were no evil in this world or mistakes to be made. But we are not perfect and learn from our mistakes, and if we try to forget our mistake we will make them again. That is what should be remembered, but if Japanese want to cling to obscure tradition that is not even 100 years old over mending past friendships, that is their choice. It’s not like China cares about Japan’s feelings, just business.
