[...] The park has received some pressure of late from International media coverage, and seems to be changing (or rather adding) its stripes. Rather than go completely legit, it looks like the amusement park is turning to other things they can fake to spin a buck - including fake zebras! Despite having obviously painted-on stripes, a park worker maintains that, “just like there are many types of people (men, women, young, old, beautiful, and ugly), there are types of zebra, and that animal is one type of zebra.” [...]

(Arg, sometimes I wish the comments can be edited so I wouldn't be posting multiple comments in a row)

Ken, I decided to do a little research to verify what you have said. Here is what I have found:

~ Nobel prize winners:
China--6; Japan--9
(according to http://plancksconstant.org/blog1/2006/10/list_of_chinese_nobe.html and
http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/lists/all/)

~ Cannes Film Festival winners:
China--12; Japan--22
(China including Taiwan and HongKong)
(from 1946-2005, according to http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0149970.html)

~ Olympic medals
China--591; Japan--699
(China including Taiwan and HongKong)
(from http://www.olympic.org/uk/athletes/results/search_r_uk.asp - I did a nation search and added up the number of results shown at the page bottom)

It would be impossible to verify your claim that China has more internationally renowned painters/sculptors/singers/actors, but based on the results given above, it's very clear that China is still much behind Japan in those areas. It should also teach you to do your research carefully before making blatant claims - otherwise you would just appear arrogant and overly proud.

I did notice, however, that the number of Chinese films winning Cannes FF awards has been increasing. This is a positive sign for China's creative industry in the future.

Oh, you also mention that "I see very often on websites that many Japanese like the strategy of pretending to be uninformed Chinese with Japan-loving undertones" - someday you will be horrified to realize that they are indeed Chinese. Or perhaps that's just the way you deal with reality: denial. Just like what the people at this park is doing.

Ken, considering that you don't know me personally, you do not have the right to make assumptions about me. True, China probably has a lot more internationally renowned artists; but taking into account its huge population size, the ratio of artistic talent is minimal. Also, more and more families are pushing their children towards the "conventional" careers (of business, medicine, or anything with good prospects of earning a lot of money), which I consider to be the origin of the talent drain in China. I guess I should have explained my point of view more clearly when I first posted the comment, but I'm really more frustrated with the current situation, rather than looking down on it.

Right, with name of "Asuka" and way you started the topic, "Chinese ppl lack artistic abilities...oh I just mean the people at the park. But I can't find the backspace button to just write it as the people at the park lack artistic abilities", really shows who you are. More likely Japanese person impersonating Chinese...I see very often on websites that many Japanese like the strategy of pretending to be uninformed Chinese with Japan-loving undertones. If you were actually in the art scene, then you would know that China has more internationally famous painters and sculptors than even Japan and Korea put together. More actors, singers, classical instrument masters, even more Fields medalists and Nobel winner and Cannes film festival awards (how can you copy what hasn't existed?). But yes, point your fingers at poor of chinese society and think you are superior.
