Kirainet has posted a very interest article about “White Mailboxes,” porn-disposal bins which were commonplace in Japan 20 to 30 years ago, but have since fallen out of style. A few still exist in the Japanese countryside:

I notice the Hashima one in the main post is new – are they making a comeback? Who exactly empties them, and would they have an impressive collection by now or what?

The anonymous comment on his blog is a tad dickish, if I may say so. Yes, the translation is off, and off enough to be misleading…but I think this is due to the author not being a native English speaker…

oh wait, I take that back…the Spanish version is wrong as well.
