Haha! I might have heard that Japan has four seasons...that is part of what makes it different from most countries right?? ;-)

Seriously though, Autumn starts Aug 7th here? I didn't know that, back in the states it doesn't start til late September... Did you find somewhere that in fact it is a flower that blooms first in cooler climates? I did a quick google search and found this site that says it grows best in dry hot weather, but it looks like there are so many different kinds, it may only be talking about the yellow kind (not in my photo).

Risshu, 立秋, the official start of Autumn is the 7th of August! In addition, summer officially started on the 5th of this month, and therefore the momiji appear in winter. Also, since I would presume that it is the cooling weather that brings out the Cosmos, Hokkaido would actually be first to have them in bloom? I'm confused!

BTW: do you know that Japan has four seasons?

Well, I really do no know the nicknames of flowers but even if it is called the "Autumn cherry blossom" I would hardly consider August "Autumn," and unless these flowers are like fall leaves (it may be, I am no expert on flowers), this would bloom in Hokkaido last....

Err, Cosmos has the nickname of 秋桜, "Autumn cherry blossom" so it flowers everywhere in the Autumn, not just Hokkaido!
