Golden Week Holiday

The Golden Week holiday starts this weekend in Japan, meaning that millions of people will be going on vacation and clogging the roads and airports. ~~As I post this, I am about to leave for Narita Airport to join the masses there. Since I’ll be out of the country for a week~~ Update: Since I was forced to postpone my trip abroad, I’ll be traveling around in Japan instead, so there will be news link posts every day during golden week. However, I have prepared some content which should be auto-posting while I am away. The number of daily updates will probably be lower than normal, but there will be new posts for you all to check out each day for the next 7 days. Have a great Golden Week, everyone!

Yeah, maybe you saw me there. I was the guy who wasn’t able to get on his flight because his traveling companion had a major problem with her passport. United Airlines gave us a voucher to use on a future flight, but it’s still absolute hell going to Narita Airport every time…

Nope, her Japanese passport had been issued by a Japanese consulate abroad, so it didn’t have a bar code that was machine scannable. You can’t get on a plane to the U.S. without one, apparently, even if you’re from a country like Japan that is given automatic tourist visas on entry to the U.S.

Blimey, that must have been annoying. Not that this is the place to get into a big rant about how insane entry procedures/security for the US is. I actively avoid it these days (and Narita).

You’re lucky UA gave you voucher(s?). I get my tickets from places like HIS and those el cheapo ones are non-refundable non-changeable. Not sure what would happen in that case.
