Goofy foreigners pitch Firefox to the Japanese (Video)

April 26th, 2007 by James

Seth Bindernagel and Seth Spitzer put on some fox ears and team up with some strange puppets to film a Japanese promotional video for the browser FireFox:

As a user of FireFox, I wish you luck, guys!

I don’t know if I should be endeared to them or feel sorry for them. Best browser in the world, worst marketing in the world. Who am I to complain? My dream is to star in karaoke videos…

Oh…my…

Does anyone know where/how this is being advertised in Japan (or if it was just put up for fun on something like youtube in the hopes of going viral)?

Even with my mediocre Japanese, I can’t bear to watch the whole thing. It just hurts. I’m sure they had a lot of fun doing it, but i think they may have gone too far with the “Japan likes goofy things, so lets be really really goofy”.

I recall last year, there was a Spread Firefox campaign in various areas of Japan…the main one I remember was the Akihabara campaign where they got some maids from maid cafes to promote Firefox…XD

I think they just scared away all potential users with their “Japanese”…

Those guys had the doinkiest accents ever! It makes me wish that Mozilla Japan could have just let them talk about Firefox 3 in English and have Japanese subtitles at the bottom…

Hey, Doinkies–didn’t expect to run into you here.

As for the video, makes Firefox look like a nice small-scale homebrew project. Perhaps this video will not help their cause too much.

FF is one of the best alternatives to IE, but it still does not secure as it should be, i have been using FF since v1 release and now it provides reliability, but uses much system resources.
