Chinese-Japanese Rapper Nycca (Video)

April 25th, 2007 by James

Here’s an interesting segment that aired today hyping the upcoming release of Chinese-Japanese rapper NYCCA’s CD:

His vital statistics, which are covered in the video report, can also be found on NYCCA’s Myspace page:

NYCCA is a trilingual rapper manipulating Japanese, Cantonese, and English. He was born in Hong Kong, moved to Japan when he was ten, and spent his collage days in New York. In his high school days, he got immersed himself in hip-hop, and decided to pursue music.

Released a self-produced CD in 2005.

Receiving high praises and gaining popularity, he released his first album on March 16, 2006.Performing internationally in Asia as well as the United States.

Some samples of his songs are also available on his Myspace profile page. It’ll be interesting to see how well his tri-lingual rap CD sells in Japan…will it be great, or just daijyoubu?

I am sure his CD will sell well and so as his concert tickets. Because he is a member of Soka gakkai, and they will buy his cd. Japanese – American duo ‘ Def Tech’ is No.1 vehicle for this soka gakkai’s new strategy of recruiting young members and found raising through music business.

Interesting. How does that work? These artists recruit personally for Soka Gakkai? It’s a cunning strategy though.

Hi, CKX. There is a guy in my office who is a member of soka gakkai, and he normally has a plastic bag full of def tech’s cd. ( now he talks about nycca all the time) And he will give it to anyone he meets. According to my girlfriend thoes soka gakkai musicians songs are based on their belief, and often the lyrics are directly taken from their bible. Apparently there are specially trained recruitment agents in their concerts, who are young, smilly and friendly. I personally find the timing of the release of this CD very interesting, becasue this is just after Wen Jiabao & Daisaku Ikeda’s meeting.

And this is different from marketing tactics used towards the United States Christian population, how?

On the management side of the music industry religion is a demographic to market to. On the artist side it’s a believe that comes from within and is expressed in their art.

i’m know nycca personally…perhaps his religious beliefs may have an effect on how well his cd sells…but he’s also very talented…i’m not a sokka member myself…but i’ve met many of them (including micro from def tech)…they’re great people…yes, they sing about they’re beliefs…but they’re beliefs are all just about being positive, thinking positively…i don’t see what’s wrong with that….they don’t force people to join they’re beliefs…
