Oh, Dice-K, how the Japanese media loves you! Since the start of spring training, Japanese TV news has been giving viewers daily updates on everything they can possibly find that is somehow related to Matsuzaka. Now that the almighty Dice-K is about to pitch his first game in Boston, the news coverage in the last few days has topped all the other current events. After all, what could be more important that Dice-K Matsuzaka pitching against Ichiro? Here are 5 memorable Matsuzaka-related news segments from earlier this week:

Video 1 (Signs are popping up in Japanese to greet the soon-to-be-arriving waves of tourists from Japan. The Red Sox merchandise shop has hired Japanese staff and has a wide selection of Dice-K t-shirts and Japanese Red Sox stuff.)

Video 2 (Our intrepid reporter tries the Diceman burger, a big American hamburger topped with teriyaki sauce. He also gets a bit excited while shopping for merchandise.)

Video 3 (Matsuzaka’s wife visited this fish shop. That’s news!)

Video 4 (Hardcore Red Sox fans camp out to get tickets to the game. They use the f-word, which Japanese TV does not censor. )

Video 5 (The reporters on Mezamashi TV this morning made a huge mistake: they attempted live narration of their coverage of New York vs. Boston clam chowder. They had no idea that loud asshole Boston fans were going to shout “YANKEES SUCK” throughout their broadcast….)

Was that too much Dice-K news for you? If you answered yes, don’t bother turning on Japanese TV for a while, since there seems to be no end in sight to this barrage of Matsuzaka worship…
