Japan boom in Russia? (Video)
Here’s a Japanese news report from last year about the popularity of Japanese culture in Russia (uploaded in August 2006, air date unknown):
A quick summary:
- Russian children are shown competing in a Japanese speech contest. One girl declares that she loves Japanese anime, and her favorites are Sailor Moon and Pokemon.
- Japanese restaurants are also increasing in number in Russia.
- 37% of Russians wrote in a survey that they liked Japan, which is apparently pretty high.
- A Russian guy on the street tells the cameras that he would like to visit Japan and thinks highly of Japan.
- A woman tells them that she thinks Japan is a very interesting country and would love to visit it, and asks them to take her to Japan!
- At the end of the report, the Japanese reporter speculates that a drop in Russia/Japan relations could be Japan’s fault because they only like a few things about russia, like art.
