Video 2: 19-year old Shunsuke Nagasaki attempts the first stage:

Video 3: A member of the American military named Scott attempts the first stage:

Video 4: All-star Takeda attempts the second stage:

Video 5: All-star Nagano attempts the second stage:

Video 6: The unconquerable third stage of the Sasuke, attempted by a shirtless Takahashi:

For more Sasuke love, check out Lost in Ube’s live-blogging post from last night, in which he gives a play-by-play of the action while frequently typing in all-caps at exciting moments.

Thanks for the link.
I don’t know what the heck happened towards the end of the first course. I believe I held down the shift button for too long and it does something to your keyboard. Believe me, I wasn’t TRYING to type like that. I couldn’t even type numbers and had to go back and edit them in! It was great to try to do that as it was on TV though.

Akoua Doffou: Sure it wasn’t Takeshi’s Castle? Different show, very similar premise. Heck, i’d even say this one is a carbon copy.

Takeshi’s castle? Oh yeah, I don’t think it was that, even though Spike TV broadcasts it. Oh, I saw this on the video game channel. I remember.

OK, i’m a moron. I just saw the first video and immediately thought “TAKESHI’s CASTLE RIPOFF!!1!” It’s actually quite different. Looks very interesting too.

“Sasuke” airs in America as “Ninja Warrior” on the G4 cable network, with an English announcer who kind of sets up and recaps the action, but the rest is subbed, which is pretty nice. The show is great. I definitely have to watch these clips. I want to see how different “Ninja Warrior” is, compared to “Sasuke”

This show is already on US TV. It is on the G4 channel, called Ninja Warrior.

Viking is produced by the same company (Monster 9) but for a different TV station.

This is a level of punishmetn not shown in the US. G4 is behind in their Sasuke transmissions. They haven’t shown Makoto Nagano’s first win yet. That course is Entertaining… the Japanese have moved on to SADISTIC. To make Nagano do the metal spin after that new jumping bar punishment… Cruel Cruel Cruel… but genius, bring it to the US, people have been waiting since running man Feat. ARNOLD.

Actually, G4 has shown Nagano Makoto’s only win. They started airing this show several months ago, with the four most recent tournaments, ending with Nagano’s 2006 victory. After that it went on a six week hiatus. When it returned they started showing older tournaments starting with the 7th. Nagano’s victory was in the 17th. As of now the 18th tournament, which aired in late March in Japan, has not been aired on American television.

I will need ALOT of training, to reach that level of finesse, probably take a year or 2. I love Ninja Warrior, because I can remind myself that there are always these physical challenges available to me. I need to get enough money to go to Japan and come back to America, in most cases, I will lose, however, I think I will have fun. It looks fun, but hard. It’s so funny when their is somebody whom is supposed to be a world-class athlete does worse than a delivery boy. I give that delivery boy props!! And that 19 year old, wow, he’s very strong for his age. I wonder who can clear that, UNCONQUERABLE 3rd stage…

I know this may be a stupid question, but what does “Sasuke” translate to in Japanese? I’m not finding it anywhere in my Japanese/English dictionary and I guess I’m really doubthing that it translates to “Ninja Warrior”

“Sasuke” is a boy’s name. Apparently, the show Sasuke was named after a very famous (fictional) ninja, Sarutobi Sasuke: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarutobi_Sasuke

Because the Sarutobi Sasuke stories are so famous, “Sasuke” has become somewhat of a generic ninja name. I suppose that’s why the American version is called Ninja Warrior.

Does anyone know if the athletes get any money if they get passed each stage? Or is it all for bragging rights?
Just courios, not entertaining any notions that I could get passed the first obstacle. Just courious

contestants are given something like 2 million yen for TOTAL VICTORY. also, I am planning a vacation in japan to try Sasuke, If anyone knows how to get in contact with sasuke, please leave a post, but i see that previos requests went ignored, even by those that claim to be training for it. I want to try too, please? :P And it’s a bit sad that you don’t think you could pass the quintuple step :(
