New Article Ms. Universe 2007!
Congratulations, Riyo!

—————————————–
And the winner of this year’s contest to become Japan’s representative at the Miss Universe competition is….

Riyo Mori, a 20-year-old ballet dancer from Shizuoka Prefecture, has been chosen to represent Japan in the Miss Universe Competition, after earning top place in a final screening session on Thursday….

….The selection event on Thursday went ahead with a show under the theme “Casino Finale,” and 11 candidates appeared on stage wearing short dresses. In the swimsuit judging section, the models danced as they took off fur coats, showing off hot La Perla swimsuits.

If you’re interested in listening to her speak, or just want to see more of her, check out this video interview or these photos of her. She says that she would like to become a world class dancer and run her own studio someday. Does this beautiful ballerina have what it takes to become the runner-up like last year’s Miss Japan, or better yet, Miss Universe?

Nope, gonna violently disagree here. Tons of better-looking girls than her in Japan. That middle photo is particularly heinous. She looks like a transvestite.

Eyelids, nose, cheekbones, lopsided breasts – she’s looks so fake she could pass for a mannekin. She doesn’t stand a chance against beauty factories like India, Thailand, and Venezuela.

Is this a computer translation? It seems like that. Very strange indeed. I don’t want to put anyone off practicing their own Japanese of course, so if this is your own work no offence is intended, but this really looks like a machine job (for one thing, I’m assuming that no human, no matter how new to Japanese, would ever write a Japanese name as “riyoのmori”). And that show just how far computers have to go before human translators become obsolete.

“Good job Mori of Riyo, I if I have a chance happy entire method im’s you who got her, she perhaps is you is good job to Riyo! Meet good girls this girl you should meet in. Gave genki-ness!”

Yup, machine translation has a loooong way to go. I once had to translate a letter a prof of mine had written using a computer to do the initial translation: ‘hajimemashite’ become ‘it begins it’, which is definitely an unusual greeting…

hahaha yeah, i def used a translator, im not japanese at all. lol. hahahahaha, and the translation sounds halarious. i used my macbooks built in translators. i dunno how nicely they worked. my japanese friend said the translation was excellent, but when you try to translate from japanese to english… it sucks. oh well. i thought it was nessessary to do it, just incase someone read who was japanese. oh well. haha, “it begins it” lol.
stupid translators…

Andrew

Out of curiosity, I ran this through my MS Word (Japanese version) built-in translator. This is what I got:
よい仕事のriyoのmori、 私は方法全体的に見ると元気づけていた。 嬉しいim彼女は入った。 チャンスを有すればこの女の子に会うべきである、 彼女は多分あなたが会う良い女の子である。 よい仕事のriyo!!

“Good work, mori of riyo, when I saw [you] method-entirely I was cheered [made genki: genki being one of those words I personally think should be used in English as it's so all-round useful]. Happy im she is in. If there is a chance [you] should meet this girl, she is perhaps a good girl for you to meet. Good work riyo!”

So it seems like a better translation, possibly as my computer and OS and all that is Japanese and may have a better Eng-to-Jap translation matrix, but it’s still not acceptable.

Yeah, I agree Andrew Shepard, Riyo is such a sweet heart. Definitely one of the nicest people I’ve talked to. I really hope she wins. You know Riyo from school in Belleville, right? I think I recognize your name from kayla L’s wall on facebook, so i’m guessing you went to school there too.

sure! i would love to meet her. But, for some reason, i feel she doesnt look Japanese. Guess i’m talking in a typical sense. I think there are better chicks to represent Nippon.

She used to go to my high school in Canada as an exchange program for ballet. There’s a huge bullitin there now saying congrats ro Riyo. Except instead of Riyo Mori, it says Riyo Sakurai.
Anyways. Yeah, I’m glad she won!
