Japanese NOVA-buddies commercial (Video)

In this commercial for NOVA, Japan’s largest English conversation school corporation, a we are shown how Japanese who attend NOVA schools can form friendships with their classmates. At the beginning of the video a boss yells at his employee for making a mistake, but when they meet that night at NOVA and speak English with each other, they are “NOVA tomo” (NOVA buddies):

I know a lot of you out there think NOVA sucks when it comes to teaching English or treating its employees well, but you’ve got to admit that they do have some great commercials.

Yes, come and learn English in order to meet other Japanese people, because you have no life. Nice idea. As a NOVA teacher, these are the exact kind of students that piss me off. The last thing I need is a new bunch of desperately lonely and inadequate oddballs, sapping the life out of me with their dismal inability to interact with other human beings! I’m a teacher not a fucking social worker!

You seem horribly insensitive. I’m sure you telegraph that lack of sensitivity to your students. I think you need to develop some insight and perhaps condider a little self-evaluation. I certainly hope your attitude is not representative of NOVA teachers generally.

Relax guys, I was joking. It was a knee-jerk reaction to seeing a NOVA commercial 5 minutes after getting home from a bad day at work! I’m really not that bitter.
Hey, don’t get me wrong, I love 99 per cent of my students, I was having a dig at the NOVA advertising department. Surely it’s not only me who can see the absurdity of having to study a foreign language in order to meet people of the same nationality?
