Dice K Versus Dice Clay

In the midst of all the hype and media frenzy surrounding the Boston Red Sox Pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (otherwise known as “Dice K”), one wonders what the washed-up 80s comedian Andrew “Dice” Clay has to say. The outspoken comic, star of “Crime Story” and “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane,” would no doubt be ruffled that the Red Sox fans have co-opted his nickname for the Japanese star player.

Nevertheless, it seems Matsuzaka’s popularity has rubbed off on Dice Clay- he has been given a new reality show, “Dice Undisputed” on Sunday nights on VH1. The show follows him as he attempts a comeback, and tries to achieve the goal of performing a sell-out show, ironically enough- in a baseball stadium. The title and premise of the show would certainly suggest that he is returning to claim the name “Dice” as his own once more.
While I suspect Matsuzaka would be nonplussed by Clay, who doesn’t exactly embody the Japanese traits of humility and reserve, the Japanese sports star may have inadvertently resurrected his namesake’s career. I think the pair of them should team up in a “Rush Hour” style action-comedy. They could call it “No Dice”.
