That samurai’s flags have a girl’s swimsuit on them! The painting is old and the painting techniques used were nothing compared to what we have in the modern day. Here’s a netizen’s recreation of what the flag may have looked like in reality:

lol, you call that a swimsuit? maybe for a young girl, but if i caught my gf wearing that, i’ll dump here

Usually they call them Sukuuru Mizugi (School Swimsuit) or sukumizu for short.
