Classic TV Show Round-up (Classic Videos You’ve Probably Never Seen)
A small collection of titles/credits to various classic Japanese shows. Hey probers, what is your favorite classic Japanese live-action series?
In case you are curious, our first title can be seen on the Nihon Eiga Senmon Channel (707 for those of you with skyperfect) very late at night. It incorporated a lot of animation by the godfather of manga, Osamu Tezuka, including a talking wolf character, ala Roger Rabit.
Our second title is the Japanese version of Spider-man
Next, The Rainbow Man. This one is interesting because the lyrics are basically, “Die. Die. Die! Die! Die!”
Lastly, Jiban, the Cybernetic detective

Classic Japanese Cartoon. Really classic. Classic Japanese Sake Commercials |

The first has really fine animation.
For Spiderman, since when does he need a mecha?
And the last one’s successor was actually aired in Germany in the early 90ies.

Anyone growing up in Hawaii during the 80s would have had access to a bunch of Japanese shows. Kikaida, various versions of Kamen Rider, Battle Fever J and some other shows so I’ve always been partial to them. Rainbow Man was aired just before I was born as was Go Ranger.
How popular was Kikaida in Hawaii? Well, the original series has been aired in it’s entirety several times and it still has a large following:

For some downloadable clips (rather than youtube) you can find some stuff here: http://www.openget.net/tokusatsu.html
Finally, for some good fun, learn some theme songs and sing along to actual clips of the shows at your local karaoke place (note: not every song has clips but lots of the older ones do).

Yeah I had a hawaiian friend who was very impressed when dragon ball came to the states with the original music he remembered as a kid.
BTW, I love to do theme songs in karaoke, but do you know the artists we should be looking up in order sing them?
If you’re in Japan, usually theme songs to anime and tokusatsu shows have their own separate section in the back of the book. You just have to know the full name of the show; if I’m looking for Kikaida, I have to look up Jinzo Ningen Kikaida, Himitsu Sentai GoRanger for Go Ranger and so on.

thanks, I never knew about that section
in the philippines, they should Jiban, and all sorts of sentai. but we had localized names, like mask rider black (kamen rider), bioman, shaider, machineman, etc.
brings back the good old days, especially Jiban! gosh, i remember myself singing to the lyrics even though i couldn’t understand them!

The only Japanese older series I have ever liked is 水戸黄門。But I never had the chance to see any Japanese live-action series when I was young. The only Japanese show we got was Astro-boy. And I love Astro-boy.

I cant remeber the name of a japanese tv show that i would watch in the mid to late 70’s(in chicago) it was about a family that lived in a cave and would turn into rockets and travel throughout the city helping people in trouble. The father was very large and gold. I think the mother was normal size and so was the son. Whenever this family would fight bad people, they would hit them in the neck and they would melt…..
CAN ANYONE REMEMBER THE NAME OF THIS SHOW ???????
