Valentine Gimmicks Galore

February 11th, 2007 by James

It’s that time of the year again. Here are a few of the fancy Valentine’s Day gimmicks that have been popping up in Japan this year:

“Love Love” Heart-shaped Cacti, for sale in Gifu Prefecture.

The Kanagawa Prefecture town of Kiyokawa has created a haven for lovers ahead of Valentine’s Day by lighting up an area around Lake Miyagase for this year’s Valentine’s Week.

Tokyo’s Krispy Kreme has been offering “Double Berry Heart” cream doughnuts since February 7th.

The Planetary Society of Japan and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) have urged romantics worldwide to “Wish Upon the Moon” for their valentines, sending names and messages on Japan’s SELENE mission.

I waited forty minutes for a donut at the Krispy Kreme in Shinjuku. I am truly Japanese!
