South Korean memory stick educates consumers about their territorial dispute with Japan

One typical issue that has been repeatedly claimed by nationalistic Koreans is the total ban of Korean language by the governor general. I can say fairly confidently that anyone can find it’s completely untrue by refering to some fundamental primary sources of information, such as The Annual Administration Reports of the Governor General of Korea. After all, how do you explain why the Governor General was publishing Hangul news letters (毎日申報) up until 1945 if the use of Korean was totally banned?
Also the first dictionary of Korean language for normal school was published in 1930.

When Korea was a vassal state of China, every official document was written in Chinese character. That’s because Korean leaders considered Hangul as “inferior characters for women”. It is just shocking how little of Koreans know how Haugul has come to such a popularity while constantly boasting about its “rational and systematic” way of writing.

Another myth is the total ban of Korean name. If that was the case, how can anyone explain the very existence of Generals 洪思翊 and 李恨, former of whom were executed by the Allied Forces after WW2? Both of them used their Korean names throughout their Japanese millitary careers. A hero of the Korean War, General 白善燁 was a young Lieutenant in the Manchurian Army, and of course he was able to use his own Korean name. And the following is a part of Miyukimori school list of graduates for 1942. This shows Koreans students in Japan were allowed to use Korean names.

Koreans ignore these facts because they really are not interested in “truth”. Quite often I feel it’s just totally meaningless to talk about historical issues with Koreans, because such effort appears to me more like trying to deconvert a brainwashed cult member.

Chinese Paper Slams ‘Absurd’ Korean History Books

A Chinese newspaper has criticized as “imprudent” plans by Korea’s Education Ministry to revise history textbooks to show that Korea’s development began earlier than is currently stated.

The Ministry last week announced that it would change the high school textbooks to state as fact that the Old Chosun dynasty was founded by Dangun Wanggeom and that the Bronze Age on the peninsula was from 2000 BC to 1500 BC, a thousand years earlier than the textbooks now state.

Sanghai’s Dongfang Zaobao newspaper on Monday said, “The South Korean government surprised the people with its imprudent attitude in accepting academics’ assertions which have long been disputed.”

The Old Chosun kingdom existed until 108 BC in the Liaodong peninsula of what is now China and northwestern regions of Korea. Koreans believe that the possibly legendary Dangun Wanggeom established the kingdom in 2333 BC.

The newspaper said that Korean history textbooks make “absurd” claims that paper and metal movable type were first invented on the Korean Peninsula. The newspaper also said other alleged claims in Korean textbooks are false, including that the ancestors of modern Koreans migrated from the Pamir Mountains of Central Asia to the Korean Peninsula in 8000 BC, gave birth to Manchu clan culture, influenced the Yellow River civilization, and established a civilization in Japan in 7000 BC.

However, the statements about the origins of the Korean people cited by the Dongfang Zaobao are not found in Korean history textbooks.

The newspaper also cited alleged assertions by Korean academic that the Old Chosun dynasty controlled much of what is now China and said that these claims “are regarded as unworthy of refute.”
