Gaijin Crime File

February 1st, 2007 by James

American-born Japanese citizen Arudou Debito has posted some experts from a Japanese book called “GAIJIN CRIME FILE.” As the title suggests, the book focuses on the various crimes committed by foreigners in Japan, but it also lumps interracial sex as a crime, as this scan shows:

Oi, N-gger!! Get your fuckin’ hands off that Japanese lady’s ass!!

According to Debito, the book is “apparently available at convenience stores.” Check out all the excerpts here!

[There were no copies at the 7-11 near my apartment. I checked this morning. Has anyone actually seen this in a convenience store? Update: While the magazine is reportedly available only at Family Mart, the Family Mart nearest to my apartment did not have it. Maybe another foreigner bought their last copy?]

It is only available at Family Mart. You can also pick it up via Amazon.co.jp

Nick, thanks for the tip. I just checked a Family Mart on my way home from work: looked at every non-porn magazine [the magazine covers in the porn section didn't seem to resemble the colors shown on amazon or the scan of the cover], but no gaijin crime book. There was a cool looking mysteries of Japanese history map book, though.

I see on Amazon that its sales rank is currently 1,425, but I know that Amazon counts page views in that total somehow.

However, here’s an interesting thought: last month you did that Roppongi English book where we laughed along at the badly-hidden anti-Charisma Man rant. Here, Debito in covering a book and we are supposed to be offended? If you’d posted the scans first would we (as in your readers) have been less offended?

And what exactly are we supposed to be offended about?

PS: I can’t access the BigDaikon page to see what’s there.

I am for the free speech, BUT I am against the manipulation of the Japanese people, who are easily controlled (in my eyes) by the media like we saw recently in the natto incident.

Why is “Mein Kampf” forbidden? Because, it creats HATE and PREJUDICE against foreigners and other looking people than majority.

Any book or publication, which fear of foreigner and uses wrong data and myth, should not be allowed to publicized.

More importantly then the FREE SPEECH is the respect to each other. And this book is obviously for creating FEAR and HATE.

“Apparently available”?

Debito should get serious about his research. Why doesn’t he get a real job. His credibility is wearing very thin. By making “Gaijin Crime File” a topic is actually hurting every foreigner in Japan.

Ferudun – Mein Kampf isn’t forbidden in Japan, the UK or the USA, to the best of my knowledge.

Some things to point out, looking at comments.
I would think the whole “Nigga, get your hands off our women” would be sufficient cause to be offended.
We have freedom of speech, not freedom from speech. Meinkampf, hateful as it is, is not banned.
Debito is a professor.

Nick:

I looked through the magazine section. I can’t think of any other section where such a magazine would be.

I also wish Debito would keep his mouth shut a bit more often. I’ve seen some of the stuff he’s dived into around TEFL college assistants contractual issues and it seems like where he gets involved he just makes things worse. Shouting “racism” all the time, polarizing the arguments to the extreme and acting as though he has the unelected remit to speak for all non-japanese ethnic individuals who have involvement with Japan doesn’t help people learn to accept their differences and identify their common ground.

I’m trying to confirm the claim that these magazines are available at Family Marts. I’m not going to go out of my way and order it from Amazon, but if there happens to be a copy at a konbini here, better that I snatch it off the shelves than some racist loser. At least I could scan more of it and let the whole world see what kind of crap the publisher and Family Mart are supporting

There are saying on BD that you can pick up a copy at Daily Yamazaki… I can’t confirm it. Most family marts I’ve been to today seem to have one or two copies.

You might have to shop around…

I agree with James.. Better that he gets it and reveals it to us then some racist looser picks it up and start making it his ‘reason d’aitre’.

James, I hope you find a copy…

I understand what you are trying to do, but does anyone not living in Japan care?
If you could create a video game where the objective is to discriminate against Japanese travellers. For example to charge them more, deny them the better quality locations in hotels and restaurants, cheat them ect. It would get attention and you could use the magazine to show why you created the game. And embarrass them into changing.
I can’t get anyone to listen to me when I explain about Japan. Most people can’t get beyond-”Robots, there must be a lot of robots there”
I hope you can find it and do something good with it

I just went down to my local Daily Yamazaki to pick up some lunch and they had 3 copies of this magazine on the shelves. Didn’t look like anyone had bothered to buy a copy.

Respect to others using speech is equal to free speech not MORE IMPORTANT. I have never read Hitlers book and would be disgusted by some contents inside. If someone wants to limit what I can read based on their opinion, I hate them.
