Japanese Self-Defense Forces: 30 battle rifles unaccounted for…

January 29th, 2007 by James

Hey, has anyone seen some Howa Type 64 battle rifles lying around anywhere? The Japan Self-Defense Forces’ OIta garrison seems to have lost 30 of them. As of January 24th, a search by 95,000 troops has failed to produce any clue to the whereabouts of the weapons. So, if you see anybody walking down the street with a Type 64 battle rifle, could you please call up the JSDF and let them know about it?

Ha…that’s a riot. Something tells me those things jam a lot and are basically junk once they’ve been lying around unused for a month or longer. I’m surprised it was used for sniping – I’d love to see what experiences anyone has had with it as a medium-range target weapon.
