Kelly Osbourne gets a job at a Japanese love hotel

January 25th, 2007 by James

Perhaps today’s strangest news:

Kelly Osbourne, daughter of rocker Ozzy and mum Sharon, has on taken her weirdest role yet.

The young singer and presenter agreed to front a show on life in Japan aptly named ‘ Turning Japanese’ which will be aired next month. Osbourne, however, was in for a shock when she was posted to work as a receptionist in a sex hotel.

The 23-year-old had to cater to the whims of clients by fetching everything from sex toys, alcohol and pots of noodles.

A producer of the show said, ‘ Kelly is pretty liberated but she’s seen nothing like this’.

As there are no “sex hotels” in Japan, I can only assume that they meant love hotel. Will this be a television show worth downloading?

Update: Japundit has picked up the story, with a link to a more informative article about the TV show.

Andy H:
I doubt that it will make many Japanese people think foreigners are stupid, as few if any Japanese people will ever hear about or see the show. If anything, it’s meant to capitalize on the image of “wacky Japan” that people in the U.S. / U.K. perceive. I’d be more concerned about the dumbed-down wacky costume-wearing sex-hoteling samurai/geisha Japan the show will portray to millions of moronic viewers abroad.

I agree. I can even understand that mindset, because I remember what I had thought of Japan before I came over here; there are those who see nothing more than the “wacky” side of Japan. It’s just impossible for some people to understand that people are living the same lives, doing the same work, with aspects of their culture tossed in.

“In episode two, Kelly’s first challenge is Manga Cosplay, a favourite pastime of Japanese teenagers”

if that’s not a sweeping generalization, i don’t know what is

I like Episode #2 where Kelly is forced to chase after people pulling her eyes back to make them look “asian” and yelling at people “me chinese, me play joke, me put pee-pee in your coke”. That was hillarious and to watch all those Japanese people run from her…well I bought everything that ever advertiser was trying to sell during the show.
