Foreigner films himself scaring a Japanese woman (Video)

Unless he followed her after his “practical joke” and apologized for scaring her, and explained it was a practical joke, she or other Japanese would not understand this was a practical joke. Probably they would understand it was the same as Japanese young students bully.

It’s just to bad someone wasn’t around to teach him some manners.

I have to agree with amaunator. He did it because he knew he could get away with it. Not really much of a practical joke to begin with. Why not just pick on some little child while you’re at it.
Also, I think her reaction has more to do with a person in a big city at night who was basically cornered than “small Japanese woman versus scary gaijin.”

Yeah you know this is lame… The video isn’t funny, its just a guy being a jerk. So whats the point of doing it?

There is no meaning in it at all. Joke for the guys doing it, scary for the girl… Yeah its ridiculous.

He’s a jerk and insensitive, but I don’t see any evidence that the woman even realized he was a foreigner or what that even has to do with his ethnic background.

That guy was obviously a jerk. However, it’s not like foreigners have the patent on obnoxious behavior like that. I’ve seen more than one Japanese variety show send a representative out among people in foreign countries and behave in ways designed to embarrass them, startle them, or make them really uncomfortable. The camera rolls and the Japanese make sport of the foreigners.

I find it interesting that some people ascribe this sort of behavior to nationalities rather than to individual personalities (as people on the site this clip originated from did). It just goes to show that people will scramble to find any weak ammunition they can find to reinforce their prejudices.

Nationality and ethnicity have little to do with just the stupidity of the event. Just simply shouldn’t do things like that. It’s that simple.

Actually they are BEYOND not above a practical joke. How long have you been here? Im assuming you are an eikaiwa slave, hasnt your five days a week prostituting your language shown you that for the most part they still think we will at the very first opportunity, in broad daylight (let alone night-time) we will steal, murder and rape, and all the while laughing through our big foreign noses.
Besides, all you have to do is come round a corner unannounced to have virtually the same effect.

The guys an idiot for filming it and thinking it would be funny. Lame joke. But you guys are way too sensitive about this kind of thing. There are assholes, both japanese and gaijin everywhere.
