“Opposition” Party
This commercial is currently airing on Japanese TV:
It might not look like it, but it’s actually a commercial for the DPJ, Japan’s main opposition party. Does the commercial bring up serious flaws in the ruling party’s leadership? Maybe it can mention a specific problem and a solution the DPJ offers, or even some mention of a policy stand? Nope. Most of the commercial is taken up by a lame scene of party leader Ichiro Ozawa struggling to pilot a ship over stormy waters, with his buddies coming to his aid. It then offers a vague promise of a “Lifestyle Restoration,” whatever that means. If this is the best advertisement Japan’s opposition party can make, I’m guessing we’ll be seeing another 60 years of one-party rule in this country…

Politics in Japan are all a big game played by the elitists. Read “The Enigma of Japanese Power” and you will see the light. As for press agencies, chances are it was Dentsu or Hakuhodo. Who else is there?

Joel, I think your right. Dentsu is the big name that I know of. And I do believe you have a point that it is an elitist sport. But never the less this ad gives the impression they are aiming at the youth vote and going for a insurance company/ miracle on sea kind of effect…
I can’t see how this will ever work but people voted for Mori so anything is possible.

I don’t know…that commercial was pretty awesome =P though I doubt it’ll influence any votes from the younger generations, they don’t exactly look like pirates, afterall.
hahahaha XD
Anyhow, seems like the DPJ are not going to win anytime -x

The people’s votes don’t count when legions of farmers are enlisted to urge everyone in inaka-ville to vote LDP to keep them in subsidies. It’s a nice illusion of a democracy, at least.
