Roppongi English: Part 2
This part is a Part 2 in a series of posts in which I will present excerpts from “Roppongi English,” an English conversation book for Japanese women hoping to hook up with foreign men. The last entry ended with Tomoko meeting a cool foreigner named Kevin, but running away after having an English-related panic attack.
Part 2: Naomi helps Tomoko hook up with Kevin

[Tomoko shamefully admits to Naomi that she fled after meeting Kevin. Naomi tells Tomoko that she knows the bar that Tomoko met Kevin at, and offers to go together with Tomoko. Tomoko is grateful to her bilingual friend and is no doubt hoping for another chance with Kevin.]

[They arrive at the bar, and it seems that Kevin and Tony are actually friends of Naomi! It also looks like Kevin and Tomoko really dig eachother..]

The first meeting is a success, and they exchange cell phone numbers. They agree to a double date in Roppongi the following week.
The Date

[At the restaurant, Tomoko suggests ordering the Ocotopus and Tomato pasta. Tony understands the word for Octopus, and gets nervous. Naomi explains to Tomoko that Octopus is a No-No for many Americans. They decide to order something everyone can enjoy.]
They all get drunk at the bar and they decide to take off:

Naomi kindly hands her friend over to Kevin, while going to “take care of” Tony.

[After returning from the toilet, Tomoko makes a remark in Japanese about feeling drunk. She discovers that her friend has left her alone with Kevin, which makes her nervous.]

To be continued …
