Poll: Fewer Japanese Admire Korea

Have you heard the news?

It was reported that 57.1 percent of the Japanese consider Japan’s relationship with Korea “is not good,” the highest figure ever recorded. This is a result of a survey on diplomatic relationships released by Japanese Cabinet Office on December 9.

In the survey, 48.5 percent of the Japanese said that they had friendly feelings toward Korea, a 2.6 percent decrease compared to the last year’s poll, which is indicative of the fact that affinity the Japanese felt for Korea since 2002, thanks to the Korea-Japan World Cup and the Korean Wave, is vanishing.

You think it might have something to do with Japanese media coverage of the anti-Japanese sentiment in Korea, or maybe the fact that North Korea is lobbing missiles into the water near Japan?

Well, we knew the hanryu trend could only last so long. It was becks, then they tried takeshi kaneshiro, then brought in yon-sama. These guys have a shelf life, and the Korean dramas were only pushed in Japan in return for allowing Japanese music and other pop culture goods to be sold in the ROK.

I’d like to see the demographics. Something tells me there was never much of a difference amongst the men, that it was only the middle aged women who felt there was some warmth in relations with Korea.

It’s in the government’s interest to do away with the old, bad feelings, but it’s still too soon and they really don’t know what to do.

At the same time, I don’t know how significant a 2.6% drop actually is. There could be way too many other outside factors in play.

Korean dramas are complete trash. I don’t see how anyone could stand to watch even one minute of those absolutely stupid storylines and sappy music. You can tell alot about a person’s intelligence level from whether or not he/she is a fan of those dramas.

i don’t know people who like korea where i live. i live in the northern Japan.. many have bad image of koreans.

I wonder how many Koreans admire Japanese? I am not going to blame the Japanese or Koreans, because it takes two to tango. The two countries are equally at fault.

For most polls, a difference of 2.6 percent is statistically insignificant.

It’s perfectly natural that Korean hate Japan, from Korea’s point of view, Korea was victim and still is after WWII. There is still unresolve territorial dispute such as Dokto & Sushima (Dai-Ma-do). Even Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands wasn’t totally Japan before Japanese expansion.

The natives living on above islands are very close to Korean race according genetic study. So before Japan became modernized, above islands were generally trade with Korea and many ppl were moved there as well.

I hope Japan should understand this, otherwise there will be no pace between two nations. This time Korea is too strong for Japan, as soon after 2 Koreas become one, it is most likely they pressure Japan and its neighbors to get their demand otherwise they will use their force as North East Asia is generally Korean dominance area, historically and culturally. You can’t deny this because it’s true, Korean culture have far more influence and impact in far east, and this why both Russia and USA don’t want united Korea.

China is trying to stop Korean dominance however, I don’t think corruppted China will able to stop this happening. Watch out Japan, united Korea may end Japan’s future.

It is interesting that Koreans who lived under Japanese rule do not have so so much hatred toward Japan as the Koreans who are educated about Japan after the liberation.
In the collections of testimonies by Korean Americans who lived under Japanese rule. the author wrote:

” Interview after interview began with sentences such as, “Nothing much happened to me. The Japanese people were not bad. We got along. It was the police that bothered us. I just stayed out of their way. .” However, these same people had small bits of salts and pepper tucked away in their interviews that, when gathered together, added dimension to the larger picture”(Under the black umbrella. page 5)

One of Koreans explains.
“”I’ve overcome my hard feelings towards Japan. It’s often the younger people who are more hostile. They’ve been fed only the worst stories about the colonial period but they don’t know the reality the way we do.”

North Korean brainwashing education is well known, but as for South Korean education after the liberation, it leaves much to be examined.

I would ask you to actually find some koreans who lived during the occupation. Or maybe find some zainichi koreans in japan. I doubt most of them will sound like the people in the interview you quote. Media is media, they have their own interests which doesn’t necessary include capturing reality.

Perhaps there is a systematic “brainwashing” in korea, as in japan. I mean most young japanese never heard of pearl harbor or they insist that it was not a surprise attack.

There are actually a lot of zainich in Japan who are critical of Korean version of history.

Not many Japanese may not be smart, but they know what Peal Harbor is.

It’s quite interesting how “hirakawa”-san brings up a belief that is widely held only in Korea…that Japanese do not know about Pearl Harbor. Any person who has spent time in Japan will know that Pearl Harbor is in the guity hearts of all Japanese. However, it is only in Korea where they seem to perpetualte the lie that Japanese are ignorant about this.

Funny how Kim-san..oops, sorry…I mean, “Hirakawa”-san seems to state beliefs which are known or spoken for only by Koreans..hmm…..
